Bangladesh won the toss and elected to bat first in the first match of Super 4 stage of Asia Cup 2023. Openers Mohammed Naim and Mehidy Hasan Miraz came out to bat, looking for a big total. But Pakistani bowlers had other plans as Naseem Shah dismissed the centurion from the last match, Mehidy Hasan Miraz on the first ball of the 2nd over of the match for a golden duck.

Liton Das came to bat at no.3 and started his innings with a positive intent. Shaheen Shah dismissed Liton Das (16 off 13). Bangladesh were now 31-2 in 4.5 overs. Shakib Ul Hasan was the new man in at the crease. But it wasn’t long enough when Mohammed Naim was dismissed for 20(45) by Haris Rauf. Towhid Hridoy came to bat but was clean bowled by Haris Rauf for just 2(9). Bangladesh were now in all sorts of trouble as they were 47-4 in 9.1 overs.

Mushfiqur Rahim came to bat at no.6 for Bangladesh. Bangladesh’s most experience duo was at the crease, looking to do some damage control and build a long partnership to achieve a fighting total. They put up a brilliant fight back and added 100 runs for the 5th wicket. Shakib completed his half century off 53 balls during this partnership. But he was dismissed soon after as Faheem Ashraf came to the party, breaking the 100 runs partnership. Shakib scored 53(57). Bangladesh were now 147-5 in 29.1 overs.

Mushfiqur also completed his fifty and kept one end safe for a while. Shamim Hussain was the next man to depart after scoring 16(23) by Iftikhar Ahmed. Haris Rauf came back to the attack and bowled ruthlessly in his 2nd spell. He dismissed Mushfiqur who scored 64(87) and on the very next ball, dismissed Taskin Ahmed on a golden duck. However, he couldn’t complete his hattrick. Bangladesh were now 190-8 in 37.3 overs.

Naseem Shah came for his 2nd spell after facing some discomfort in his shoulder in the beginning. He started from where he left off and took 2 wickets in the same over, finishing Bangladesh’s innings. He dismissed Atif Hossain 12(11) and in the same over & clean bowled Shoriful Islam 1(3). Bangladesh were all out for 193 in 38.4 overs.

Mushfiqur was the top scorer with his 64(87), followed by Shakib ul Hasan 53(57). For Pakistan, Haris Rauf was the pick of the bowlers for his 4-19, followed by Naseem Shah with 3-34. Shaheen, Iftikhar and Faheem took 1 wicket each. Bangladesh set a target of 194 in 50 overs for Pakistan.

Fakhar Zaman and Imam ul Haq opened the account for Pakistan in the 2nd innings of this Pakistan vs Bangladesh match. Pakistan started their innings with a cautious approach as openers put up a stand of 35 runs in 9.1 overs. Fakhar Zaman was dismissed by Shoriful Islam on 20(31), whose form is a worry for Pakistani batting management.

Pakistan chased the target in 39.3 overs. Imam top scored with 78(84), followed by Rizwan with 63*(79). For Bangladesh, Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam and Mehidy Hasan Miraz took 1 wicket each.

Haris Rauf was declared man of the match for his outstanding 4-19.
