Dimension of Cricket Pitch

Cricket may be the only game in which the pitch plays a huge role in the outcome of the match. Over the course of time, the quality of pitches has improved greatly. The host teams can take the home advantage of making the pitch to suit their capabilities more than the visiting team. Although they have to meet the requirements which are laid out in the Law 6 of MCC.

Cricket pitch is a rectangular area almost in the center of the ground which is 22 yards/ 20.12 m in length and 10 ft/3.05 m in width.  It is bounded at either ends by the bowling crease and on either side by imaginary lines, both the imaginary lines should join the center of the middle stumps, each parallel to it and 5 ft/1.52 m from it.

The umpires are solely responsible to judge the pitch for its fitness for play. Before the match, the ground authority will be responsible for the selection and preparation of the pitch. Umpires will be responsible for the use and maintenance of the pitch.
